The 77th Sapporo Snow Festival runs February 4–11, 2027 across three sites: Odori Park, Susukino and Tsudome. Odori is lined with huge snow sculptures that are lit up in the evening, Susukino focuses on ice sculptures, and Tsudome offers family activities such as snow slides. The detailed program is still to be announced.
Calmer ways to enjoy it
- Walk Odori Park in the morning, when the sculptures are already on view but the evening light-up crowds have not arrived.
- The western blocks of Odori Park, farther from the TV Tower, usually feel less packed than the central area.
- The Tsudome site on a weekday daytime is spacious and good for children.
Crowd impact
Expect around 2.4× the usual crowds near the main venue while the festival runs. This is an estimate, not a live count.
Practical tips
- Sidewalks are icy — slip-on shoe grips (sold in Sapporo convenience stores and shops) make a big difference.
- Dress in warm layers with gloves and a hat; evenings outdoors in February are very cold.
- Hotels in central Sapporo fill up early for festival week, so book well in advance and check the official site for the program.
