Chichibu Night Festival

- When
- Where
- Chichibu, Saitama
The Chichibu Night Festival is the festival of Chichibu Shrine, with the eve on Dec 2 and the main night festival on Dec 3 every year. On the night of Dec 3, six floats (two kasaboko and four yatai) are hauled up the slope to the Otabisho while winter fireworks light the sky — in 2025 the fireworks ran from about 19:30 to 21:55. It is one of the UNESCO-listed Yama, Hoko, Yatai float festivals.
Calmer ways to enjoy it
- During the daytime of Dec 3, the floats move through town in a much calmer atmosphere than the night climb
- The eve on Dec 2 gives you the festive streets and floats with far fewer people than the main night
- Watch the fireworks from Hitsujiyama Park on the hill above town rather than squeezing toward the Otabisho
Crowd impact
Expect around 2.3× the usual crowds near the main venue while the festival runs. This is an estimate, not a live count.
Practical tips
- In recent years the Otabisho area has been paid-seat-only in the evening, so book a seat if you want to watch the floats arrive there
- Use Seibu-Chichibu Station or the Chichibu Railway; return trains are packed after the fireworks, so plan your train home in advance
- December nights in the Chichibu basin are very cold — dress in warm layers, gloves and a hat, and bring cash for food stalls
